1000 Van Ness Field Trip

The inaugural Field Trip led a group though 1000 Van Ness, home to six floors of escalators leading to an AMC Theaters. Artist Carrie Hott narrated a history of the escalator (as both object and word) while riding the escalator. Stairwell’s co-directors Carey Lin and Sarah Hotchkiss then pointed out interesting architectural elements as the group descended, allowing participants to contribute their own escalator-related stories to the conversation.
